Considering my last post was from the peak of summer, it would
appear that this has become a seasonal blog, and I can now post in the newest
season upon us – Autumn – or Minnesota pre-winter. Sorry followers, I was busy, you
know, living, and stuff…
In all actuality, I love autumn/fall/pre-winter. I love when
the weather cools down, allowing for sweatshirts, sweatpants and fuzzy socks to
become a prominent casual wear of choice (and necessity).
You may be wondering what I have been up to lately. Well, here's a list of all the things (I can think of right now) that I have had my hands on:
You may be wondering what I have been up to lately. Well, here's a list of all the things (I can think of right now) that I have had my hands on:
1. Pro-bono design work for the Mounds View Community Theatre.
I put together their play program design, layout, editing, ad creation, etc. for them again this year (this is my third year with them for this project). This year, their musical was Cinderella. It was a great show. They always put on a GREAT show! Last year they put on Les Miserables and the year before that, Pirates of Penzance. It was a lot of work, but well worth the effort to see my hard work in the hands of all the theatre goers at that performance!

2. Keeping with the design theme, I designed a wedding set of materials for my freshman college roommate's-brother's wedding. It has been really fun working with (mainly) the bride and seeing what her tastes are and designing to fit her ascetic. It's always a surprise to have the theme and color palette start one way and completely change after the Save The Date cards are finished. She started the design idea with lime green and white, more of a casual, non-frilly/fancy design. Fast forward to the invitations and rsvp cards and the color palette and theme completely changed! This time - it was champagne, pinks and lace! Talk about a complete 180!
3. Keeping with the design trend - I designed Save The Date magnets for my coworker for her upcoming wedding! They turned out super cute and really, the hard work was done for me - because they wanted a few of their engagement photos as the main element of the magnet. So fun and I was so happy to have been a part of it!
4. A whole lotta HGTV goodness has been watched. From Love It Or List It, House Hunters, Rehab Addict, Fixer Uppers, to Property Brothers, and Fix or Flop - I have been watching them ALL and LOVING it.
5. Fantasy Football -
I am in a league for work. I haven't been involved in a league for a couple of years, so it was interesting getting my feet wet again this time.
Team name: Lawn Gnomes.
I haven't gotten off to a great start - I won the first match-up and lost the next two. Hopefully I make a decent comeback!
6. Game of Thrones -
Yes, Derick convinced me to start watching the show a long time ago, and I have been slooooooowly watching and getting caught up. I am still not to the point where I say to myself, "man, I NEED to keep binge-watching this show to see what happens to so-and-so next!" I just watch one here or one there. I am only on season three, so I have a ways to catch up before the next season starts - if I want to keep watching and keep up with the show in "real-time."
Do yourself a favor and jump on YouTube and watch this Bad Lip-Reading production. It does not disappoint... and also this Second Extended Feature...
7. Business Travel - Destination - LasVegas, Nevada!
It was time again this year to head to warm (read: HOT) Las Vegas for the annual Reflexis user conference. My boss decided to send me by myself this year. It was a really great trip! I was able to network my butt off (and have the business card stack to prove it), learn more about the current system, as well as learn and ask questions about the new upgrade environment. All in all, it was a pretty great experience and I hope to go again next year!
