Summertime

I am not sure how it is quite possible that it is already creeping up to the end of the month of June. Weather here has not been very summery lately – so much rain! Though we need the rain, and an occasional rainy day can be a blessing from the typical summer heat, we haven’t had much of the heat part! South of us, areas are flooding and roads are being closed due to rivers swelling so much! The forecast also looks like another 1-2 inches of rain across Thursday and Friday!

Derick and I also haven’t had much of a summer yet because, well, he has been gone! June 13-20th, he and his cousin Joe were fishing in Wisconsin. They have been trying to keep this ritual going the past few years and usually come back tanned (or burned), tired, dirty, happy, and with “Bass thumb.” (I think Derick created a new term – where the skin on his thumbs are worn off/down were he “lipped” the bass that he has caught all week – the insides of their mouths are rough). He came home Saturday morning and spent the day unpacking his truck, doing laundry, and prepping for his week of training for school this week!

Sunday we met up with my Grandma for lunch to celebrate my birthday. It was nice seeing her and getting to talk and spend some time with her. I also got a dose of coconut shrimp, so I was a pretty happy camper!

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful, which was nice. It gave us both a chance to spend some time together and re-charge before the week this week!

Derick left this morning for a school training week on location at Carleton College in southern MN. He will be gone all week and will return home Friday night. It has been weird having the house to myself for one week already and another week this week! Tucker has sure missed Derick too…however, has totally gotten used to occupying more (read = MOST) of the big bed without the hassle of trying to fit in between Derick and I!

So, since the month of June is almost over, Derick and I thought we should try to plan out what we want to get done this summer! We have talked about trying to hit a few of the Minnesota state parks this summer – in efforts to make it to all 67 of them that exist in the state! What a fun goal! We also want to take a trip to the Brainerd lakes area as well. SO many of my childhood summers were spent at my grandparent’s cabin there (Little Pine Lake on the Cross Lake Chain). I miss it a lot up there. Hopefully we can get up there once this summer to get my fix!

In all the talk about camping, I was catching up on emails and Facebook this weekend and saw that a former small group leader of mine, that had recently moved up to Northern MN, had bought the most awesome camper possibly ever. I am in love with it. She and her husband bought a 1959 Mallard Travel Trailer.

I did a google search and her image actually came up:

If that isn’t the cutest thing you have seen, I’m not sure what to tell ya! I actually had looked up this travel trailer and there is another version of the same camper with a bunk – style bed system (bottom is a full-size bed with a twin bunk on top. But wow – as just a couple who is traveling and camping, this seems like a sweet set-up!

Happy Trails!
