New Diabetic Dr.

Today I also had my first appointment with my new diabetic doctor! It was a little weird, considering that for the past 23 years of my life, I have had the same doctor for my diabetes and otherwise. Today was the day for my big switch, Child Endocrinology to Adult Endocrinology.

I didn't really know what would all be different, but I found that there were just a few things that were nicer within the adult sector rather than the childcare area. I came up with the following list,

You know you're not a kid at the doctor's anymore when:

  • The waiting room all the chairs are normal adult size
  • Instead of toys all over the waiting room, there are lamps and magazines
  • The nurse does not take your height measurement (and I thought there was HOPE for the shorty in me!)
  • There are no neon flower/bug/animal cutout stickies on the walls leading to the exam rooms
  • Inside the exam rooms, there is just one color painted on the wall and more mature artwork
  • No chalkboard, chalk, stepping stool or toys inside the exam room
  • No food recently eaten list on the sign-in sheet
  • No "what is your favorite class in school" question on the sign-in sheet
I think those were the main things that I noticed.

I had to get some lab bloodwork done today and the girl I had pretty much rocked! She was super fast and not too painful! Also, another weird observation, but I also had to have a urinalysis and when she gave me the cup, I wanted to ask, "Is that all?" Their cup sizes have I think gone down by half! I remember having to drink about a gallon of water on my way TO the doctor's office if I had ANY hopes of coming close to filling that huge jar! Maybe they wised up and realized that normal people don't have to go that much!

So, other than my lab results, and a couple minor adjustments to my insulin regimen, she said that everything looked to be going well and that I was in good health! yay for that!

Well, now my desk and office are clean here at home, and I am thinking of possibly tackling the office closet and trying to get some of the explosion back into some kind of order in there so that I can close the closet doors! The office room drives me nutty! Nothing really makes sense in there and it is pretty much a random dumping ground for anything Derick or I are working on, need to file, or need to store in the house/ I am pretty sure that there are Christmas decorations in there!

Alright, I'm on it!

First attempt at freelance, DONE!

So as some of you may know, I have been recently working on a freelance project. Well, tonight is the night that I finished my work on the project and am all set to hand-deliver the goodies on Friday (if everything works out with my client's schedule). I designed a graduation party invitation with a map and directions on the back. I also printed her name and return address on 110 envelopes and ran all of her invitations off on my new color laser printer and have to say that they turned out rather nice, despite some early issues I was having with the printer end of things.

Here are a couple photos of the final product:

Freelance and Football Drafts

Today marked the day of the NFL football draft. Derick and I decided last minute that we were going to have a little get together with anyone that wanted to come over. So we both got bitten by the cooking bug and cooked up a storm! We made a TON of food, or so our refrigerator seems to tell us... We made taco stuff, bacon dip, better than sex cake, pizza crockpot casserole and cold tuna ring salad! yum! As it turned out, Pete and Paul were the only ones who were able to come over, so here we are, with all this food! No worries, it will be made into lunches and dinners for the next couple of weeks!

Since not many people came over, and the draft couldn't really hold any ounce of my interest, I went into freelance work mode! I went to chat with my client and we finalized just about all of the details of her daughter's graduation party invite that I am designing and printing for her. So I got that all set to print, printed and cut them all to size. The last thing that I have to do is buy the envelopes Monday and then print her return address on them! THEN she said that she will have other projects lined up for me for the summer, so that will be nice! We decided that we will be trading service for service. My design expertise for her nail tech skills! My hands and feet look so pretty! Not so sure about the name of the color I chose though...Affair in Red Square...sounds pretty scandalous!

I dunno if it is just something that you notice more as you get older, but WOW are there a lot of freaking people just pregnant, pregnant or having babies that I know! When Paul came over tonight, we were talking and then Derick mentioned seeing a FB wall post about knowing the sex. So he wondered and Paul then confirmed. Yes they are pregnant and due Thanksgiving week! wow! They just got married in January, but good things happen to good people. And I was glad to hear that all things health wise seem great! I know that when Derick and I decide to have kids, it might be me with the child bearing issue. Diabetes and babies do not get along too great, and the way things have been going with my bloodsugars lately, I will either need to get on the pump soon, or just in general, things healthwise may not be so great down the road.

Well, I think it is time to clean out the office for a little while tonight. I may need a girls weekend soon because I have had too many boys around the house for awhile now! I mean, I can for sure be one of the guys, but it is nice just to hang with the girls too!

All for now,
L
